Guide On How To Repair An Oven Door Seal

oven seal repairA loose or broken oven seal prevents the oven from fully heating the food fully. This results to the food taking longer than usual to heat. To rectify the problem you need to undertake oven  door seal repair.

How to repair the oven seal

You should start by removing the old seal. You should note that some seals are held in place with screws and all you need to do is to loosen the screws. In some cases you may need to lift up one side of the channel in order to see the screws. To make it easy for you to install the new seal, you shouldn’t remove the screws all the way out—you should leave them partway in.

You should then clean the channel with a small amount of detergent and rinse using warm water. You should clean the oven channel until there is no grease left around the door frame (if you are installing an oven door seal).

Once clean you should start installing the oven seal from the top. You should tighten the screws in order to hold the seal in place. You should finish at the bottom where you should butt the ends of the seal together.

If you have just bought the new seal and you find that it’s too stiff thus you are having problems working with it, you should soak it in warm water for a few minutes in order to soften it up.

After installing it you should go over it and ensure that it’s straight. If it’s distorted or twisted you should consider loosening the screws.

Points to note

It’s good to note that there are two types of oven seals: one for the oven frame and the other that sits behind the front and back sections of the door. While you can easily replace the first one, it’s highly recommended that you hire an appliance repair professional to replace it for you.

When buying the new seal you need to be careful and ensure that you buy the right model number. For the new seal to last for a long time you should ensure that you buy the highest quality that you can afford. You should also ensure that you buy from a reputable store.
