Ways to Get Safe Drinking Water

You might not be aware of this, but the water you drink is not as safe as it should be. The fact is that most of the water in the world contains traces of harmful chemicals and pathogens that can cause serious health problems.

The good news is that there are many ways to get safe drinking water. Here are several ways to do it.

Install a whole-house filter

If you’re on a municipal supply or have a private well that’s tested regularly, then a water filtration system may be all you need.

These filters are installed in line with the main water line before entering your house and remove many contaminants such as lead, chlorine, and fluoride. They also reduce sediments and improve the taste.

Purify with bleach or iodine tablets

If you’re on the go and worried about drinking tap water, you can purify it with bleach or iodine tablets.

Bleach will kill most bacteria and viruses, but won’t remove chemicals like chlorine. Therefore, you may want to go the extra mile and use iodine tablets as they will better purify your water.

That said, you may want to avoid using bleach if you have iodine allergies, kidney disease, or liver disease, because it could be dangerous. If you’re pregnant or nursing, avoid using both bleach and iodine.

Get an under-sink filter.

Under-sink filters are easier to install than whole-house filters because they fit directly under your sink without disrupting any plumbing lines.

They usually come with adapters that allow for installation at any angle so that they fit anywhere in a cabinet below the sink, even if there isn’t enough space for an elbow fitting on either end of the tubing.

Use a charcoal filter system.

This is an excellent way to get clean drinking water if you have well water. These systems are often installed under the sink in the kitchen or bathroom of your home and filter out dirt, sediment, and other contaminants from your well water before they enter your home.

They also remove odors and bad taste from your drinking water so that it tastes better when you pour yourself a glass of H2O.

Use a UV light purifier.

A UV light purifier uses ultraviolet (UV) light to kill 99.9% of bacteria and viruses in your drinking water. It works by destroying the DNA of any microorganisms in your water so they cannot reproduce or cause illness.

However, you must use filtered water with this method because the contaminants will not be removed from your tap water, only made safer for consumption by killing microbes.

Use reverse osmosis systems.

A reverse osmosis system, also known as an RO filter, removes more than 90% of all contaminants from your drinking water before it reaches your faucet. This method also removes dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium, which may affect the taste of your water.

An RO filter pushes contaminated water through a semi-permeable membrane that only allows clean, pure H2O molecules to pass through to the other side while trapping contaminants on its surface.

Boil water before drinking it

The easiest way to get clean drinking water is to boil it. All you have to do is bring the water to a rolling boil for one minute, then let it cool before using.

As you can tell, this is cheaper as you don’t have to install a water softener system Warren or any other expensive system. All you need to do is fire to boil the water, and you are good to go.

Bottom Line

When you think of drinking water, you probably think of the glass or bottle you fill from the tap. But what about all the water you use for bathing and showering? Or cooking? Or washing dishes?

Water is used in just about every part of your daily life, so it’s important to ensure it’s safe no matter where it comes from.
